- Motorola has announced that eight of its phones will receive the Android 9.0 Pie update.
- Pretty much all current-gen smartphones are on the list, but there are some notable omissions.

Motorola may not be the quickest with software updates, but at least the company is trying to be more transparent with its users. Earlier today on the Motorola blog, Motorola announced that the following eight smartphones will receive the update to Android 9.0 Pie:
No specific timeframe was given for any of these updates, but Motorola did mention that the updates would start rolling out this fall. If you’d like to keep tabs on Motorola’s software update progress for your device, you can search for your phone on this support page.

It’s official: Motorola and Lenovo made one of the worst iPhone X clones yet (Updated)
Update, August 15 at 2:19 p.m. ET: It's official — Motorola has officially announced its new P30 smartphone in China. It appears to be just as much of an iPhone X ripoff as the leaks suggested, …
All the phones on Motorola’s list are either current- or previous-generation devices, but there are a few notable omissions. The Moto E5 Play and E5 Plus, which were just announced in April, will never receive a major software update according to the company. That’s pretty sad, considering all of Motorola’s phones are running near-vanilla Android. Note that Motorola’s entire Moto G5 lineup isn’t on the list either.
Transparency is always a good thing, but Motorola hasn’t been the quickest with major software updates over the years. In fact, it was one of the slowest smartphone makers to roll out Android Oreo to its first phone. I’m hoping things change with Android Pie — perhaps the inclusion of Project Treble will help speed things along.
Of course, we’ll let you know when we hear anymore update news from Motorola. For now, be sure to keep tabs on our Android 9.0 Pie update tracker and check out our Android Pie review if you haven’t already.
